| Good Friday Tre-Ore Service | 12:00 PM - 03:00 PM | TRE ORE SERVICE – GOOD FRIDAY, APRIL 2nd, at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2336 St. Johns Avenue 12:00 NOON TO 3:00 PM All are invited. The central mystery of the Christian faith remains the death of Christ. Christians believe that man cannot live unless God Himself entered into death. Without Good Friday, there is no Easter Sunday. “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins” (Hebrews 9:22). For centuries Christians have used prayerful rituals to experience the deeper meaning of this dark day. The Tre Ore focuses upon Christ’s “seven words” from the Cross, accented by short homilies. It also features the narrated Passion account from Scripture. The hymns and music vividly portray the cold reality of nails, blood, loneliness, thirst, and tortured breath. The intense climax comes when Jesus gasps the words, “It is finished.” Each of the seven 20-minute meditations ends with a short intermission. People are free to come and go throughout the service. As in centuries past, the Tre Ore begins at noon and concludes at 3:00 p.m. - the very moment when Christ gave up His life. Worshippers then depart in holy silence, pondering the death of God in place of mankind. To experience the Tre Ore is to sense the mystery of how this Friday can be called “Good”. We will gather at the foot of the Cross to worship Him and to commemorate the profound mystery of earth’s darkest hours. |
